This is no pepsi commercial, it is the cry of joy by "Shershah"

For those of you to whom this title seems unheard of, let me take you back to June 99. When most of us were having a gala time on vaccations, our “jawans” at Tololing, Dras, Kargil regions were busy fighting the Pak army and defending the nation.

It was the time when there used to be Diwali everyday for them, playing with crackers (for us the missiles and bombs) is something they love and to defeat the enemy their sole aim. At the Indian Military Academy these officers take an oath “IF DEATH COMES TO ME BEFORE I PROVE MY BLOOD THEN I PROMISE I WILL KILL DEATH .” and they live to their promise. With their mind, body and soul all for motherland, they never get deterred with the fear of death. For them it’s better to burn out in a short lived blaze than be smouldering forever so long. Harkatul Mujahideen, Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkare Toiba, Al Badr — militant oufits active in J&K are getting full support from Pakistan and the number of infiltrators crossing the LoC is increasing as Pak army is getting demoralised by their continuous failures but they definitely have more to face!! There is no full-stop that our jawans know of.

In our worst nightmare also we can’t imagine ourselves at their place, where tea is a luxury, food would take hours to reach them and that too is hardly edible. But for our brave soldiers these are little things which hardly matter, what matters to them is their success over those who are trying to hurt “their” brothers.

Our country has several officers who have done us proud and we must be grateful to those parents as well who had the heart of lion to see their children devoting their lives for mother-nation. The death of Col.Vishwanathan, the senior most officer and an inspiration to many was a major blow to our country. We have soldiers like Y.Yadav who after being gunned down with 14 bullets, lived to again get back to battlefield with more confidence.

Also we have Capt.Vikram Batra (13 J&K rifles) who chose his success signal as “YEH DIL MANGE MORE ” for he wanted to capture and kill some more enemy. The list of those who gave their lives, leaving behind their wives, children, parents and the entire nation to be proud of them is endless. We can never express our gratitude to them in words.

Kya Azam Tha, Kis Azam Se Voh Jang Lade The, Jo Desh Ke Liye Qurbaan Ho Chale. Dushman Ko Maar Giraya, Desh ko Tutne Se Bachaya, Ae Veer,Tujhe Is Desh Ka Salaam!

What stayed with you?

A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.

i feel disgusted by ur poem, excuse me but u can never save a country from falling apart thru gory bloodshed, and remember there is always a second side of the story..dont be too convinced by what u get from the media here, remember they r getting the same there..and the circle of hate still continues...the poison has spread to the roots, nothing i feel can save us now...

I feel there is no glory in war. Only shame! The shame of sending young promising lives to an early death over some useless piece of land. Its as if its a sport, with blood hungry spectators demanding more gore. Let us understand war as Einstein - the greatest mind of this era- rightly puts it; "an illness of childhood". We need to grow out of it. I wonder what must pass through the minds of those young guys - for whom life is just begining to take shape, and they are asked to hunt for their death. "Yeh Dil Mange more" - to live - not to sacrifice it to protect the meaningless existence of faceless millions. Its unlikely that you have seen how ugly death can be at close quarters - please don't glorify it based on what the government's media agency has to say.

in this fractured world where peace is established on nuclear deterrence,i think ur article which glorifies war is justifiable..WHAT A PITY..whwre do we go from here, sweeet child o mine..... uhhh.. by steely dan on Tuesday June 27, @08:46AM Dear Shivani, Your article seems to have generated some amount of heat. I guess hatred and enmity do not go down too well with some people. Also, I think some of them suspect that you may be standing for the next elections. and that's a definite put off. To each his own. If you are comfortable with these emotions, do not be discouraged. However, if the purpose of your article was to glorify the jawans and the officers, I beg to differ. I contend that my heroics while making sense of my pathetic little life are equally glorifiable (is that a word.. o nameless editor?) the army is doing its job - well. thank god for that. the cricketers are doing their job - badly. who cares? the politicians are having their cake -and eating it too. filthy bastards. i am still alive. which god do you want me to worship?
