My take on the Piano Bar Gig.... Walk in with a heavy bag filled with lead sheets people dining look at you wondering who you are take a left and there you are at the Piano Bar T.V's blaring and no one's caring that you're even there a game is on and the shouting's loud but you set up your music and start to play Talk is loud and laughter louder but you get lost inside your world of Black and White the notes just right your heart and soul spill upon the keys Cigarettes and ashtrays napkins on the wood with the empty remains of a drink or two the last one didn't care enough and left a ring on the piano The world around you disappears as you throw yourself into your music it could be a small bar room or Carnegie Hall it really doesn't matter at all There doing what you like best yet you notice from time to time as a drunk comes up to the piano that all they really care about is that you don't know their request The night is over your four hour stint gone off without a hitch except for the hint of a smile of a person leaving waving goodbye it was worth it for that one bit of recognition Pack up your things and unplug the 'mike' your fingers hurt and your eyes are red the manager comes over and hands you some cash "See ya next week", was all he said You feel like your un-noticed but you know that you're not if you didn't show next time you'd hear about all the business they lost because you weren't there you'd probably lose the gig you don't want that 'cause you care As you empty your glass full of tips

What stayed with you?

A line that lingered, a feeling, a disagreement. Great comments are as valuable as the original piece.
